Security

8BitSafe provides fast, space-efficient backups, but also data integrity and confidentiality by means of authenticated encryption.

Encryption is not optional in 8BitSafe, so that accidentally disabling encryption is not a possibility. So you can be confident everything is encrypted client side.

The encryption also has very little effect on backup speed for systems with multi-core processors making it still suitable when encryption is not a requirement.

Long term storage

You data is encrypted locally using 256-bit symmetric encryption making it suitable for long term storage.

tip

We don't use any asymmetric encryption to protect the symmetric encryption keys.

Cryptographic implementations

8BitSafe is using Botan for cryptography implementations.
