8BitSafe is free for personal use, with no restrictions for home users.
Business users are required to purchase a license.

While licenses are not required for home users, purchasing one helps sustain future development and ensure continued improvements.

License checks​

The license system is intentionally very permissive and trusts users to acquire the appropriate license.

This allows for the following:

  • no phone home checks are made
  • license is never required for restoring data
    • Allows seamless restore without locating license
